symposium 2011St. Louis, Mo., Aug. 11, 2011 – With the nation’s recovery stumbling badly, donors are demanding that charities demonstrate their effectiveness as well as their stewardship of donor funds.  The Better Business Bureau’s Charity Symposium on Aug. 25 will give charities guidance on how they can meet donor demands for proof of performance.

Three speakers will address the issues facing foundations and the charities they fund in what has been called “the new normal.”

  • Doug Bauer, executive director of the Clark Foundation in New York, will share his experience working with more than 130 grantee organizations working to address poverty in the nation’s largest city.
  • Charles Gasper, director of evaluation for the Missouri Foundation of Health, will talk about how foundations evaluate charities and what they expect when they make grants.
  • Jack Galmiche, president and chief executive of the Nine Network of Public Media, will talk about the evolution of KETC Channel 9 from a single public television station to four digital stations, each with its own character.
The BBB encourages nonprofit leaders, board members and staff to join the BBB and these outstanding speakers for this important discussion and networking opportunity.

The symposium starts at 7:30 a.m. on August 25 at the Chase Park Plaza and runs until 9:30 a.m. Continental breakfast and program materials are included. The cost is $35; $30 for BBB charities or if more than one member of an organization attends. To sign up, send an email to executive.assistant@stlouisbbb.org or call 314-645-0606.
