and companies in settling disputes amicably through mediation and
arbitration. Both services are offered cost-free to the public.
Training is provided.
Title: Mediator
Reports To: Mediation Administrator
Function: Goals of Mediation – Assist customers and companies
in settling disputes amicably. To provide guidance and educate customers
who are having problems with businesses. To suggest ways for companies
to gain good will of customers, through resolution of customer’s
complaints. To retain constant neutrality.
Major Job Duties
Place calls from our office to companies who have expressed an interest
in mediating an amicable resolution to a claim. Place calls to companies
who have not responded to complaints. Place calls to the customer to present
a company’s offer, if necessary. Document the context of all correspondence
and conversations in complete sentences so the responses are understood.
Also clearly note the party to whom you are speaking. Attend orientation
and training sessions.

• A minimum of 2 hours per day, two days a week

Title: Arbitrator
Reports to: Arbitration Administrator
Function: To resolve business and consumer disputes quickly and
economically as an alternative to the courts.
Major Job Duties
• Serve as a volunteer
• Conduct hearings
• Gather and analyze factual information
• Work within a schedule
• Remain impartial
• Ask questions
• Write decisions accompanied by detailed reasons
• Comply with Arbitration rules
Desired Skills and Attributes
• Excellent written, verbal and listening skills
• 21 years of age or older
• Able to work with a wide variety of people and situations
• Able to maintain a position of authority
• Able to be fair minded, dependable and conscientious
• Available for hearings during business hours
• Able to remain neutral
• Legal or business background
Time Commitment
• Approximately 1 to 2 hearings a month
• Hearings last 2 to 3 hours on average
• Two day training session
